Overview
Every location carries two scores. Each one answers a different question, so read them side by side.
- Health Score answers: what is broken right now? It reflects problems that have already happened.
- Risk Score answers: what could go wrong soon if nothing changes? It flags warning signs before they become problems.
A location can have a strong Health Score today and still carry a weak Risk Score. That combination means nothing has slipped yet, but conditions are lining up for trouble in the next few weeks. Both scores matter.
Both scores run on a scale of 0 to 10.0. Every location starts at 10.0, and points come off only for real, measurable conditions in your project data. Nothing is subjective.
Health Score
Your Health Score measures current problems: overdue milestones, blocked work, and tasks past their deadline. If a milestone is late, it counts. If it is not, it does not.
| Score | Status | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| 9.0 to 10.0 | Healthy | Work is on track with no significant overdue activity. |
| 7.0 to 8.9 | Warning | Some past due work is present. Worth monitoring. |
| 5.0 to 6.9 | At Risk | Notable overdue activity that needs attention. |
| Below 5.0 | Critical | Significant past due work requiring immediate action. |
Risk Score
Your Risk Score looks ahead. It flags work falling behind pace, ownership gaps, and tasks with no one driving them forward. Common risk signals include a task due soon with an incomplete prerequisite, a large number of upcoming tasks with no one assigned, or a spike in upcoming work compared to prior weeks.
| Score | Status | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| 9.0 to 10.0 | Low Risk | Upcoming work is owned, sequenced, and on pace. |
| 7.0 to 8.9 | Moderate Risk | Early warning signs are building. Keep an eye on them. |
| 5.0 to 6.9 | High Risk | Several upcoming items are likely to slip without action. |
| Below 5.0 | Critical Risk | Problems are imminent. Act now to prevent overdue work. |
Reading Both Scores Together
| Health | Risk | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| High | Low | On track. Maintain your current cadence. |
| High | High | Fine today, trouble ahead. Assign owners and clear blockers before deadlines arrive. |
| Low | Low | Catching up. Clear overdue milestones and tasks to recover. |
| Low | High | Needs immediate attention. Start with overdue milestones, then ownership gaps. |
How to Improve Your Health Score
Two things drive most of a low Health Score. Fix these first.
- Overdue milestones, especially ones blocking other work. This carries the heaviest weight in the score by a wide margin. One overdue milestone that other teams are waiting on does more damage than dozens of smaller issues combined.
- Overdue tasks, especially ones not yet started. Assign an owner and start now, or mark the task Not Applicable if it is no longer needed.
Everything else the score checks, such as blocked or at risk tags, tasks due soon, and tasks with no recent update, carries much less weight. Clearing overdue milestones and tasks usually resolves much of the rest along the way, since blocked work often clears once the item blocking it is done.
How to Improve Your Risk Score
Two things drive most of a low Risk Score. Fix these first.
- Tasks stuck waiting on other tasks to finish. This carries the heaviest weight in the score. Completing the prerequisite task moves the whole chain forward.
- Unassigned tasks that are already urgent, or work that should have started but has not. Get an owner on these before they become overdue and start pulling down your Health Score as well.
Minor unassigned gaps, stale tasks, and general due soon volume carry much less weight on their own. Put owners on your urgent work and clear your blocked chains, and the smaller items tend to resolve themselves.
Tips for Lasting Improvement
- Start with the biggest issue. One fix to your heaviest weighted item moves the score more than several small fixes combined.
- Fix risk early to protect health. Today's Risk Score items become tomorrow's Health Score problems. Addressing them now keeps both scores strong.
- Allow time for updates. Scores refresh up to 3 times a day, not instantly. A fix you just made may take a few hours to appear.
